Sun Moon Earth Memory
One of four carved limestone pieces by Boyd Sturdevant and Ned Cunningham‘s passion project, Sun Moon Earth Memory, will commemorate the 2024 total solar eclipse and find its permanent home here at Lake Lemon Riddle Point Park!
Sturdevant States, “Sun Moon Earth Memory is my attempt to notice – to anticipate, prepare and remember the event with others. My main goal is to be part of this journey of notice and memory.”
Sun Moon Earth Memory limestone markers will be placed close to the umbra centerline in Monroe County Indiana. The markers are designed to be a point of celebratory notice today – and to be accurately interpreted 10,000 years from now. This interactive art series will allow members of the surrounding communities (and beyond) to leave their mark in a piece of history. Our dedication ceremony for the piece will be Sunday April 7th, 11am-4pm in conjunction with the Lake Lemon Riddle Point Park Great North American Eclipse viewing celebrations! Come just for the day Monday April 8th, or camp with us starting Sunday April 7th and contribute to the piece – which ever you choose we have plenty to offer for your eclipse viewing fun.
Local Magazine LIMESTONE POST tells the story of the process undertaken to create these monuments in their article: The Art of Totality: Celestial Celebrations in the Hoosier State.
